Michael Mattimore

Michael Mattimore is the managing partner of the firm’s Tallahassee office. Mike is an experienced litigator who has represented public and private sector employers of all sizes before state and federal courts.  Mike has developed a particular interest in and has successfully negotiated many collective bargaining agreements and has played a primary role in advising clients on union-related matters. He represents public employers before the Public Employees Relations Commission (PERC) in cases of impasse, representation and mediation, and also regularly appears on behalf governmental entities before many other public administrative and judicial bodies. He also represents employers before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in union representation proceedings and unfair labor practice proceedings, and in arbitration of labor disputes and labor contract negotiations.

His cases include defending a private company in an action brought by the EEOC that resulted in a defense judgement and an award of fees and sanctions against the EEOC in excess of $350,000, successfully defending a reverse discrimination lawsuit against Florida A&M University defending a constitutional attack upon the Florida’s Student Success Act.

Mike has practiced with the firm since 1981 except for a four-year term of office (1987-1991) as the Chairman of the Florida Public Employees Relations Commission. In that gubernatorial appointment, confirmed by the Florida Senate, he had oversight of all public sector labor relations in Florida.  Mr. Mattimore served in the capacity of Chairman of PERC under both Governor Martinez and Governor Chiles. Since, Mike has served as the Chief Labor Negotiator for the State of Florida on behalf of Governors Bush, Chiles, Scott, and DeSantis in the Governor’s role as the public employer for all state employees and as Special Counsel for litigation involving labor issues. He previously served as Special Labor Counsel to Governor Lawton Chiles and as the Chief Labor Negotiator for Governors Jeb Bush and Charlie Crist. In 1998 Mr. Mattimore was selected by the President of the Senate, Speaker of the House and Governor Chiles to serve as the Co-Chairman of the Workforce 2002 Commission. This Commission explored the means for improving the public sector workforce through the implementation of innovative wage and benefit programs.

Mr. Mattimore has been married to Nancy Mahon Mattimore of Jacksonville, Florida since 1984.  They have two daughters, Leila Claire and Mary Grace.  He currently resides in Tallahassee, Florida.
